Mike Hosty is a comedic one-man-band legend in Oklahoma. He doesn’t have a promoter or gimmick to get plays on Spotify.  Those who know his talents swear by him.  His sound fills up the room of a 4-piece band without relying on drum loops or triggers. There is simply nobody on earth quite like him.

His song “Oklahoma Breakdown” was covered by Red Dirt artist Stoney Larue and blew up so much in Texas that it was the top-selling single for all of 2007.

This documentary explores why a legend of the underground avoids the limelight when he could be a millionaire.

DIRECTOR's NOTE

In the late ’90s in Norman, Oklahoma I came across an artist that would forever stick with me. The band Heater and a couple of years later, the Mike Hosty Trio, featured a guitarist whose sound was irresistible.  College kids like myself were required to hit the dance floor – everyone was there dancing to the B-3 Organ of the Trio’s Chris Wiser and of course, that Mike Hosty beat.

For years of seeking the entertainment calendar every time I came back to Oklahoma, my immediate thought was always “Where is Hosty playing tonight”?  In 2016, I no longer had a full-time job, so I wanted to tackle a side project. A documentary on Mike Hosty was the first thing on my mind. It had to be done.

Drawing inspiration from Hosty himself, a very DIY approach, the project has taken over 5 years but I finally felt it worthy enough to release for fans that yearn for a deeper dive into all things Mike Hosty. And for those that are being introduced to him for the first time, you owe it to yourself and to Mike to spread the word.  After all, everyone likes to laugh and have a good time – that is what Mike Hosty is all about.

Christopher Fitzpatrick’s OKLAHOMA BREAKDOWN profiles a one-of-a-kind one-hit iconoclast

Oklahoma Breakdown: The Mike Hosty Story - Film Review

"I went to the DeadCenter Film Festival Showing of ‘Oklahoma Breakdown: The Mike Hosty Story’ at Harkin’s Theater on Sunday June 12th, and was totally captivated by the film..."

“I’ve made six music documentaries, and as soon as the credits rolled on Oklahoma Breakdown I was angry I hadn’t discovered Mike Hosty first and made a seventh. A one-of-a-kind film about a one-of-a-kind artist. It’s loud, brash, funny, and laced with chaotic emotion. If you love rock n roll, especially in a raw, unadulterated form, you will become a fan of Mike Hosty and love every damn second of Oklahoma Breakdown.”
